Why it matters

Reaching high levels of mindfulness usually takes years of disciplined practice to rewire brain connectivity. This study shows that targeting a specific brain hub with focused ultrasound can induce the same neural "decoupling" found in lifelong practitioners, significantly accelerating the training process.

From the abstract

Systematic focus training is increasingly recognized for its therapeutic benefits, with equanimity, the ability to maintain an open and accepting attitude towards all experience, identified as a critical mechanism for improving well-being. Physiologically, experienced meditators demonstrate reduced activity in the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), a hub of the default mode network (DMN), and increased segregation between the DMN and the central executive network (CEN).
